Description:
Thallus is rose red (bleaching to yellow later in season), somewhat crisp, reaching 60 cm (24 in) tall and 20 cm (8 in) wide. The blade is usually undivided (entire), rounded at the top, perforated with small holes, tapering rapidly to a stipe (variable length), and attached to a small discoidal holdfast. Cystocarps occur as small dark bumps on blade surface. Habitat: This annual is found on rock in the low intertidal and subtidal (to at least 18 m depth) of semi-exposed habitats. Similar taxa: Palmaria mollis.
