Description:
Thallus is crisp, somewhat dull, medium red to yellowish pink, reaching 30 cm (12 in) or taller. The blade is palmate, with irregular lobes and dichotomies, wedge-shaped at base, tapering to a discoidal holdfast. This species is edible and a good source of vitamins and minerals. Habitat: This species is biennial, with bladelets proliferating from the previous years’ stub; it occurs on rock in the mid to low intertidal and subtidal of semi-protected to semi-exposed habitats. Similar taxa: Palmaria spp., Sparlingia pertusa.
