Description:
Thallus is crisp, shiny, deep red to yellowish pink, reaching 10-15 cm (4-10 in) tall. The thallus is narrow, flattened, repeatedly dichotomously branched, occasionally palmate, tapering to a discoidal holdfast. Some thalli become hollow and resemble the North Atlantic species Devaleraea ramentacea. Habitat: This annual occurs on rock in the high to mid, sometimes low, intertidal (generally above P. hecatensis and P. mollis, if present) of semi-exposed habitats. Similar taxa: Devaleraea mollis, Callophyllis spp.
