Description: Thallus is a partly hollow, unbranched cylinder lacking constrictions and ranging from light to dark brown in color, usually with a reddish cast, and sometimes appearing twisted. Clusters of the tubular thalli arise from a discoidal holdfast and often form mats. Thalli grow up to 35 cm (13.7 in) tall. Habitat: This weedy annual can be found in high tidepools and on mid to low intertidal rock from protected to semi-exposed habitats. Similar taxa: Scytosiphon.
