Description:
The thallus of this distinctive species is golden brown, gelatinous, and has an irregular branching pattern. Thalli generally reach a height of 10 cm (4 in). Habitat: This species is a mid summer annual found on rock, soft substrate, and epiphytically on other vegetation such as eelgrass in the low intertidal and upper subtidal zones. This species prefers semi-protected or more sheltered habitats.

Also reported from the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, subantarctic islands, and Oregon--these require verification. Oregon record not listed on Oregon seaweed website.
