Description:
Thallus is green to light green and made of delicately branched, uniseriate filaments from 5 to 20 cm (2-8 in) tall. Branching is from ends of cells, and branches become narrower toward their tips. The thallus frequently forms extensive mats in undisturbed areas. Habitat:; This species is very common and is found on all substrates, forming mats in the mid to low intertidal in predominantly protected areas and in high intertidal tidepools at more exposed sites. Similar taxa: Ulva prolifera, Acrosiphonia arcta.
Comments:
The identity of specimens from tropical locations with this temperate species (type locality: England) requires verification.
