Description:
Thallus is golden brown, globular, reaching 7 cm (3 in) in diameter. The thin, smooth, hollow thallus tears easily. The thallus also has colorless hairs in clusters on its surface. Habitat: This annual grows either directly on rock or on other algae in the low intertidal in semi-exposed to semi-protected habitats. Similar taxa: Leathesia marina

Need to verify occurrence of species west of Alaska Peninsula (Synopsis says it occurs in Aleutians but I know of no records from there); records from Liberia, Tanzania and Solomon Islands also need to be verified.
