Description:
Thallus is an unbranched filament with a single file of cells (uniseriate) that can reach at least 3.0 cm (1.2 in) in length. The multinucleate cells of the filament are squat, quadrate, or barrel-shaped, 13-70 mm diameter (average 40 mm) and 18-50 mm long (average 31 mm) and have a reticulate chloroplast. The holdfast has relatively few (<5) rhizoids. Habitat: The species is found on bedrock, boulder and cobble in the mid to high intertidal zone in spring and early summer in semi-protected to semi-exposed habitats. Similar taxa: Rosenvingiella, Ulothrix.
