Description:
There is no doubt recognizing this distinctive species. The bright green thallus is tubular at the base but flattened above. It grows into long, narrow, ruffled blades two cell layers thick, 1-4 cm (0.4-1.6 in) wide and up to 45 cm tall. Cells are 10-15 μm diameter. Habitat: The species is found in the mid to low intertidal on cobble, boulders, and bedrock. It prefers protected and semi-protected habitats. Similar taxa: Ulva californica, U. intestinalis.
